My Name’s Forrest Gump; People Call Me Forrest Gump. Saucony’s Originators “mrFOAMERSIMPSON & YOUNG BUCKETS”.

I don’t speak much about Saucony, but when I do (insert Dos Equis meme here.) I kid of course, I didn’t actually know where that saying originated from until I YouTube’d ‘I don’t always’ then a recommended search for ‘I don’t always drink beer but when I do I prefer Dos Equis’ appeared and that’s the end of this story.

So In 2016 Saucony Originals started the Originators Only Project, which features a diverse group of 10 creators (also known as Originators) from the digital sneaker community. Each of these unique individuals uses sneakers and social media to inspire their communities of followers to be an Originator in their own right; and that was our common goal for the Originators Only project.

A word from mrFOAMERSIMPSON;

“The inspiration behind this shoe is Forrest Gump – more specifically, the Bubba Gump hat that he wears. I still remember watching that movie on VHS over and over again. My pops rented it from the video store and I think we had it for so long they just told us to keep it! We watched that movie a lot together, all of us, so even today Forrest Gump reminds me of family – It reminds me of how important sticking together is, and it reminds me that tough times don’t last, but tough people do.”

So what do I think? I think Foamie and Young Buckets did a top notch job on these. I’ve seen Saucony here and there and I do fully back the brand in regards of how they’re able to produce high quality sneakers, with premium materials, prime quality yet keep them under the radar and away from target audiences (kids with parents credit cards) who tend to ruin a good shoe.

For the outsole, we have a gum bottom, very classy touch, complimenting a bright white midsole with small detailing of indents all over. Moving upwards, the entire up is this really plush, opulent, rich suede, which looks extremely soft and buttery to the touch. Different shades of red all over, dark red on the toecap, lower side wall, eyelets and back heel tab, lighter red on the toe box, upper side panel, tongue, and heel support.

Then you’ve got a really nice light Pink on the Saucony Panel on top of the side panel, very reminiscent of a shrimp, which makes sense as Forest Gump said, ‘”Anyway, like I was sayin’, shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. There’s uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There’s pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That- that’s about it.”

You’ve then got a hit of blue on the Saucony branding on the back part of the shoe, blue insoles which you can’t see from these photos, but trust me, they’re blue! You’ve then got perforations on the heel lining on the back of the shoe, as well as the tongue, a nice aesthetic touch to the sneaker. Topping it off you have a nice set of white rope laces, which seal the deal.

Overall, this shoe is really well executed and delivered, you can tell a lot of thought went into this shoe and the story behind makes it even more admirable. So my hat is of to @mrfoamersimpson and @young_buckets, you guys killed it!
